From 1993 to 2011, Darcy Padilla followed and photographed the life of Julie, now defunct. Young woman with AIDS, she lived alone in extreme poverty and became a mother of two children… For this exceptional work “Julie 1993-2010”, she received several awards including the W. Eugene Smith humanitarian photography, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography in 2010 and World Press Photo in 2011 and 2015.
In 2014 she published the book Family love which contains her photos from “The Julie project” and texts of french writer Emmanuel Carrère.
